COMPOSER'S NOTES

When collaborating with director Spencer Millsaps, we came to the conclusion that The Bust is a horror film at its core, even if its premise teeters on the absurd. As such, the score had to walk a tightrope, enhancing the building dread and suspense that unfolds as the story progresses, but shifting drastically in tone by the time the credits roll. My primary goal was to let the tension simmer until it reached a boiling point, once all characters are out of the car and we're left only with audio to infer what's happening. Tonally, the music takes on a more atmospheric, immersive role, inspired by haunting soundscapes in films such as Aliens and Hereditary.

For the end credits, the tone flips dramatically. The funky, boppy energy that emerges signals the film’s true nature, catching the audience off guard in the best way—a sort of playful “exclamation point” to the tension they’ve just experienced. It’s a shift designed to leave viewers with a grin and a sense of the film’s unique personality. My hope is that the film's score is as memorable and surprising as the story itself.
