Star Wars: A New Score was part of a research project for Gardner-Webb University's Summer Research Scholar Program. For this project, I wrote entirely new music for the original Star Wars, keeping the same spirit as the original score and Wagner’s operas, which was John Williams’s inspiration. My methodology was to split my work into researching and then composing. First, I conducted research about Wagner’s operas and leitmotifs, and I also researched the other inspirations behind the iconic themes in Star Wars. Next, I looked into Williams’s own methods and to listened to his score many times to evaluate how he developed his themes. Finally, I wrote and arranged 2 hours of music for full orchestra, keeping all of these research methods in mind. The film is protected in Section 110(1) of Title 17 of the United States Code.
